Term 2 is going to be a busy one with sport. The Kakano team, fresh from their PE professional development, are ready to go with some exciting and challenging games based around small and large balls.

This term we will also be developing a page on this blog that will provide you with information about how PE is taught at Oaklands, and the basis behind what we do.

The Kauri team hit the ground running on Tuesday with the year 5 / 6  winter sport trials. Any last minute changes regarding which sport a student trials in need to go to Mr Hillary or Mr Forman.

Sunday 14th April

Kia Ora all

We have a new addition to Our Awesome Athletes.

Today we have 4 talented Oakands Athletes to bring to you. Here is a picture, check out the Our Awesome Student page.

Keep the success stories rolling in. We have a huge number of talented athletes at Oaklands and we want to show them off to the community, and through this blog, the rest of the world.

Basketball

Trials are still going for some teams, completed for others. Students will know if they made the team by the end of this week at the latest.

We will supply successful students with match day details once we receive them from the Pioneer Basketball Club.

The hardest thing to do as a coach is to have to tell some students that they didn't make the team. Unfortunately there are always more students wanting to participate than there are places.

Winter Sport Trials

They take place this week. Year 5 / 6 students will trial on Wednesday and Year 7 / 8 students will trial on Thursday. From these trials we will select teams to go to the Friday afternoon Hagley Park Primary Schools Winter Sport competition.

Duathlon

Notices went home Friday for students who were selected for this event, to be held at Ruapuna Raceway on Wednesday, May 15th.
Interested students need to return their permission slips by THIS WEDNESDAY to the office or Mr F. in Room 5.

The notice also indicated that I will be heading down to Westlake Park after school on Monday and Thursday to do some training. Team members are welcome to attend. I will be leaving school at about 3:20pm and returning by 4:30pm.

Please email me at    grant.forman@oaklands.school.nz   if you have any questions.

Cheers
Mr F.

 Our Awesome Athletes.
We have a new addition.
Today we celebrate the talented HARRISON LESTER of Room 5.

Take a look and see what Harrison has been up to.

Rugby League Tournament

Unfortunately due to the rain this didn't take place today. More information will be coming regarding the postponement day.

Canterbury Swimming Championships

Six of our talented students will be going to Wharenui pool this Thursday. From everyone here at SportOaklands2013 blog (which is only me actually) - all the best for Thursday.

Basketball Trials

Rained out today for year 5s. We will give it a shot tomorrow.

WE NEED YOU --- WE NEED YOU --- WE NEED YOU

Winter Sport 2013 - May 23/24 --> End of August

Winter sport is almost upon us and we are currently preparing for trials next week.
Winter sport begins May 23/24 and finishes around August 23/30.
Year 5 – 8 students are able to participate in soccer, netball, hockey, rugby and league.
We propose to enter a good number of teams, but we need your help.

We need parents who are prepared to help us as team managers on the day of competition. Historically we have travelled to Hagley Park on Friday, and intend to do so again this year.
Team managers will have the following responsibilities:
Travel on the bus with students, walk with them to and from the game, organise students during the game – including substitutions. You may also, if confident, do some refereeing.

A number of our wonderful community helped out last year, and they are still smiling.

If you are interested, or want some more information, please contact Grant Forman  @   grant.forman@oaklands.school.nz
